This year, the Greystone Invitational is GOING GREEN and cutting back on the amount of printed documents in order to help the environment.  We hope you'll support our efforts by utilizing the website and our email newsletter to locate the latest information for the 2010 Greystone Invitational.

TOURNAMENT SELECTION INFORMATION

  • The Tournament will accept a total 144 players by May 23, 2010, or at such times as the tournament becomes full.
  •  Entries are open to male, amateur golfers, who are:
    1. 18 years of age, or,
    2. Junior Golfers (<17) with approval of the committee, or,
    3. Members of a college golf team and/or, or
    4. Maintain a handicap in the low single digits and,
    5. Dress and act in a manor fitting a premier country club environment. 
  • Those players not making the initial field because it was full, and/or after the cut off date, and/or otherwise after the 132 players are named, will have to play in the the Qualifier Tournament for the final 12 slots. This tournament fills more quickly than most, so please do not postpone your registration.
  • You do not need an exemption status to apply. All players, with significant golf skills, are encouraged to apply.
  • Players are force ranked based on their reported GHIN (or other recognized) handicap rating. College golf team players are not required to have a GHIN handicap.
  • The Tournament Committee will NOT consider those players, who in the past, have a history of WD without injury, No Carding, or abuse of Greystone Tournament or Club staff.
  • We strive to have a strong mix of non-exempt and exempt players, from a wide geographic and age range, to play a well prepared championship golf course.

 Greystone Invitational Automatic Exemptions

  1. Current and Former Greystone Invitational Champion
  2. Top 24 in Previous Years Greystone Invitational (All Players)
  3. Top 10 in Previous Years Greystone Invitational (Mid-Am Division) 
  4. Current or Former State Am, Mid-Am Champion - any State (5 years)
  5. Current Year College All Conference Selection
  6. Current Bradley Johnson Memorial Champion
  7. Previous year Top 10 Finish in the Southern Am, Porter Cup, Sunnehanna, Rice Planters, Western Am
  8. Top 10 Finish in Mobile Labor Day Invitational, Birmingham CC Invitational, Sprit of America
  9. Top 150 Scratch Players World Amateur Ranking. (SPWAR)
  10. Alabama Golf Association Top 25 points ranking as of Greystone Invitational registration date.
  11. Cleveland Golf Company Sponsorship Exemption (limit one)
  12. Special guest of the Tournament Committee (limit one)
  • Those applicants not making the initial field, through exemptions or USGA GHIN Index, should be available for a Qualifier
  • Greystone Members not meeting one or more of the above listed exemptions, must also apply through normal channels and/or qualify
  • Nothing will be charged to your credit card until your acceptance into the Greystone Invitational Tournament or Qualifier

The Tournament Committee is the final authority in determining whether or not a handicap that has been submitted qualifies as an "approved USGA handicap".

Entries are subject to rejection, or withdrawal, at any time at the discretion of the Tournament Committee.

Important Dates

  • March 23rd, 2011 - Web Site Opens for Registration
  • June 21st, 2011 -   Tuesday Qualifier Tournament Legacy Course
  • June 22rd, 2011 -   Practice Round.
  • June 23th-26th, 2011 - Tournament Dates

Format

The Invitational will be conducted on 72 holes of Stroke Play, 18 holes daily on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, limited to 144 players. There will be cut after 36 holes to the low 70 players and ties.

In the event of a tie, or ties, for first place position, a "Sudden Death" play-off for that position(s) will commence immediately following the conclusion of the stroke-play portion of the Invitational, or as early as practicable.

The players are required to continue play Hole #18, or as determined by the Committee, for as many holes as are required to decide a winner. In this case the stipulated round is deemed to extend to the number of holes needed to decide the Tournament.

If darkness or weather conditions prevent the determination of a winner, the following rules will apply in order:

  • Hot Dog Eating Contest
  • 50 Yard Dash Contest
  • Gut Punch Contest

If no winner is determined, Co-Champions will be declared.

Playing Partners / Travel Partners

Playing partners requests will be honored only on a limited basis. The committee rotates players tee times to insure you play with different people each day. If you are traveling with a group, please let the Chairman know so your tee times can be made around the same time.

Any other specific requests can only be handled by the Tournament Chairman, Tom Ramsey (205-790-1629).
 

Conditions

The Greystone Tournament Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions and schedules herein. The decision of the Tournament Committee in any matter shall be final.

Entry Procedure

  1. To submit this entry, simply click the online entry form menu item fill in the registration form which will appear at that time and click the submit button at the bottom of the registration form.
  2. No entries will be accepted after 5:00 P.M., The Monday before The Invitational Tournament Begins. 
  3. An entry fee in the amount of $260.00, payable by check / credit card, must accompany the entry application. 
  4. To confirm that your entry has been received, processed and approved, click on the tee time sheet icon at a later date on the Greystone Tournament website. Email confirmations will be sent for applications submitted online and every applicant will be notified via email or phone about the status of their application.
  5. In the event the field has to be pared due to over-subscription (see Format above); applicants will be notified of the status of their entry no later than the Monday of Touranment Week.
  6. If the entry is rejected for any reason(s), you will be immediately advised of the reason(s), at which time you can correct the problem(s) and re-submit the entry form.
  7. PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT NO ENTRY IS FORMALLY ACCEPTED UNTIL THE ENTRY FEE HAS BEEN PROCESSED BY THE GREYSTONE TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE, AND YOU HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED A TEE TIME.

Refund of Entry Fee

  1. If withdrawl is required due to injury or schedule conflict, it must be done 30 days before the start of the tournament. 
  2. After tee times are announced, there will be a 50% refund of the tournament fee.
  3. There is no refund if a withdrawl is made within 14 days of the tournament date.  However, credit for future events may be granted at the approval of the Tournament Committee, Director of Golf. and Tournament Chairman.

Caddies & Carts

Golf carts are REQUIRED and are available to those contestants who have a valid driver's license. The Cart Fee, separate from the Tournament Fee, will be collected before the tournament and is $40.00 for the entire tournament. Carts fees will be the same for each player, even if circumstances are such that a player is left to ride by himself.  

No caddies are available at Greystone Golf and Country Club. It is permissible to bring caddies and any player who does so is solely responsible for his/her conduct. Contestants are required to have a cart, due to pace of play as well as a method to deal with the extreme heat.  However, either the player OR the caddie may ride in the cart but not both.

Users must obey the cart operations rules established by the host club, to include the allowance of spectator carts.

Cart signs will identify your cart.

Spectator Carts

Spectator carts will be available on Saturday and Sunday only - Standard vehicle operations requirements apply.

Rules of Golf

Play will be governed by the 2010-2011 Rules of Golf as published by the USGA and by the Local Rules as established by Greystone Country Club and the Alabama Golf Association. (AGA) Questions will be settled by the Greystone Rules Committee, whose decision shall be final.

Practice Priviledges

Greystone Golf and Country Club extends practice privileges to eligible players.  Starting times MUST be obtained from the golf shop (205-986-5126).

Dress Code

Greystone is a spikeless golf course.

The dress code at Greystone Golf and Country Club will be strictly enforced. Jeans are NOT permitted and shorts MUST be "Bermuda" length, or mid-thigh. No "cargo" shorts will be tolerated and this includes cut-offs, tennis shorts, bathing suits, etc. Shirts must have collars. Any player not meeting these standards will be asked to remedy this situation prior to play.

If you have any doubts as to what dress will be accepted, please ask prior to beginning play.

Conditions Agreement

I agree that Greystone Golf and Country Club has the right to reject, or withdraw, any entry at any time, to include during play of the Championship.

I am an amateur golfers and understand the "Rules of Amateur Status" as established by the United States Golf Association.

I, the participant in this Championship, assume full responsibility for all our acts, whether they be negligent or otherwise, and hold harmless Greystone Golf and Country Club any Staff, Member, or Volunteer, for any injury(ies).
